1. Choosing the Best Cabin for Your Getaway
No two cabins are alike at Ludlow’s. Handcrafted by the Ludlow family over four generations, each of our 23 cabins offers a one-of-a-kind getaway every time you stay with us! So whether you’re planning a romantic weekend or bringing the whole family we have the perfect accommodations for your vacation.
With so many options to choose from we recommend you start your cabin search by figuring out how many bedrooms you’ll need.
For larger groups, our Coffeetime, Stardust, and Twilight Cabins are ideal, all with five bedrooms and spacious accommodations for up to 10 guests, including wraparound decks, screened porches, full kitchens, and cozy, stone fireplaces. Great for those family vacations, a gal’s getaway, or a fishing trip with the boys.
Another cabin perfect for big groups and for your furry family members is Ludlow’s latest addition, Spruce Cabin. With room to sleep nine and pet friendly, Spruce features four bedrooms, three bathrooms, an expansive deck, fireplaces in the dining and living rooms, and a private dock your pup won’t be able to resist jumping off of.
Our Dreamcatcher Cabin is one of the most unique and versatile cabins on the Island. Four stories tall with panoramic deck views and a different theme on each floor, Dreamcatcher is great for groups who may want the option to enjoy time together and separately, retreating into their own Northwoods oasis.
If you’re looking for a secluded getaway for two, you may want to unpack and get cozy in our Northshore Cabin, tucked back among giant white pines offering unparalleled privacy and seclusion.
When choosing your cabin, you should also keep in mind many of our cabins are optimally located for either stunning sunrises or beautiful sunsets.
If you love to wake up with the sun, our Sun Up Cabin offers wonderful sunrises among the trees. Or, if you like to unwind in the evening and soak in a gorgeous sunset, there’s no better view than from the deck or screened in porch of our Sundown Cabin.

3. Activities on the Island
Whether you want a vacation simply relaxing on our sun-soaked decks or you love to get out and explore, we offer plenty of activities and amenities that cater to every type of vacation and are great for families.
On the Water
We have just about every type of watercraft available for you to enjoy getting out on the lake. Hop on a hydrobike or paddleboat. We also offer paddle boards, kayaks, and canoes.
For a more leisurely cruise around the lake, you can rent a pontoon or deck-boat, perfect for long afternoons out on the water. The kids will also love our waterslides and climbing iceberg for endless fun in the water.
Fishing
Lake Vermilion is a phenomenal lake for fishing walleye, crappies, northern pike, muskie, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, along with panfish like sunfish, perch, and bluegills.
Stop in our Bait and Tackle Shop to peruse our expanded line of fishing and outdoor gear, equipment sales, and demo options for our guests. Michael, our head of guest services, will help outfit you with everything you need or set you up on a guided fishing trip.
Recreation, Games, & Kids’ Activities
Head out on the court and play a friendly game with friends, family, and the kids. We have racquetball, tennis, basketball, and the ever-popular pickleball. The kids will also love our Summer Kids’ Program, Kids’ Fishing Program, and our Kids’ Craft Playground sure to entertain them for hours!
4. What to Bring and Pack in Your Suitcase
If you’re not sure what to bring for your Island retreat, we’ve gathered a list of Ludlow essentials you’ll want to bring.
- Sunscreen/Sun Hat/Sunglasses. ✔️
- Bug Spray/Citronella candles for Minnesota’s unofficial state bird. ✔️
- Swimsuit/Beach Coverup/Floaties for the kids. ✔️
- Sandals for the beach plus a good pair of walking/running shoes to explore the Island or for a game of pickleball. ✔️
- Pack lightweight, comfortable clothing for hot summer days out on the pontoon and lounging on the deck. ✔️
- Outdoor gear and active wear so you’ll be ready for a fishing trip on Lake Vermilion or match on the courts. ✔️
- Something cozy for those cool summer nights watching a sunset over Lake Vermilion ✔️
- Bring your rain gear just in case! ✔️
5. Vacationing on an Island
We make sure you have everything you need on the Island for an unforgettable vacation.
In each cabin you have access to a fully-equipped kitchen complete with everything from wine glasses and tea cups to a cheese grater and grilling supplies. Freezer bags of ice are also available for sale at our fully stocked gift shop and grocery/pantry in case you want a big bag for your cooler though all kitchens are equipped with ice-making capabilities as well.
And if you don’t feel like figuring out what’s for dinner we offer Cabin Meal Delivery, bringing you ready-to-prepare meals and homemade desserts with cooking instructions.
